Jacob is 5 Weeks Old Today

I love watching Carter and Jacob together.  Carter can barely stand not touching his brother every single second.  I captured this precious moment today of the two of them.  I just love how much they love each other!

No More Weight Checks

Yeah!  Jacob went to the doctor today for another weight check and his doctor gave us the all clear!  Jacob gained another 11 ounces in 1 week.  He went to the doctor last Monday and weighed 7 pounds 3 ounces and today he weighed 7 pounds 14 ounces!

Jacob's 1 Month Old Today

• Jacob's Milestones ~ Tracking objects with his eyes.

• Jacob's Weight ~ 7 pounds 3 ounces.

• Jacob's Length ~ 20 1/4 inches long.

• Jacob's Routine
• 6:00 am ~ Jacob wakes up and nurses until 6:30 or 7:00 am.  Then he has 1-2 ounces of formula. 
• 7:00 am ~ Jacob does tummy time.
• 8:00 am ~ Jacob nurses and has 1-2 ounces of formula.  Then he goes down for his morning nap.
• 10:00 am ~ Jacob nurses and has 1-2 ounces of formula. Then he and plays for about an hour.
• 12:00 pm ~ Jacob nurses and has 1-2 ounces of formula. Then he goes down for his afternoon nap.
• 2:00 pm ~ Jacob nurses and has 1-2 ounces of formula.  Then we get ready to pick up Carter from school.
• 3:30 pm ~ Jacob plays with Carter.
• 4:00 pm ~ Jacob nurses and has 1-2 ounces of formula.  Then he goes down for his afternoon nap.
• 6:00 pm  ~ Jacob nurses and has 1-2 ounces of formula. Then he plays with Daddy and Carter.
• 7:00 pm ~ Jacob takes a bath and gets ready for bed.
• 8:00 pm ~ Jacob nurses and has 1-2 ounces of formula.  Then he goes to bed for the night.
• 10:00 pm ~ Jacob nurses and has 1-2 ounces of formula.
• 12:00 am ~ Jacob nurses and has 1-2 ounces of formula.
• 2:00 am ~ Jacob nurses and has 1-2 ounces of formula.
• 4:00 am ~ Jacob nurses and has 1-2 ounces of formula.

**This schedule isn't set in stone.  We let Jacob tell us what he needs and when, he's more of an on demand schedule.

Jacob's First Tummy Time

Since Jacob is starting to stay awake for longer periods of time I decided to start tummy time today.  At first he hated it, but after about 1 minute he was fine and started enjoying it.

Jacob Did It!

Jacob is FINALLY over his birth weight of 7 pounds 1 ounce!  He now weighs 7 pounds 3 ounces!  I'm such a happy mama!

Jacob is an absolute different baby since I've changed the way we feed him.  He's more content after his feedings.  I nurse him for 20 minutes on each side then he has about 1-2 ounces of formula to help satisfy him.  It was a little discouraging when I found out we had to supplement with a little formula at the end of our feedings, but it's all worth it after seeing how much he's benefiting.  He has one more weight check with his doctor on Monday and if he's continued to grow he won't have to do any more weekly weight checks.

Today we went and had some family pictures taken.  Jacob was 3 weeks and we wanted to have his newborn pictures taken.

Jacob's Weight Checks

We've taken Jacob to the pediatrician a couple times a week since he was circumcised on February 29th.  Jacob was 2 weeks old at his circumcision and his doctor wasn't happy with him not being back up to his birth weight yet.  I was nursing and he wasn't thriving (I don't make enough milk) so the doctor had me supplement with an ounce or two of formula after each feeding.  I've been supplementing with formula since Monday, March 5th and he's gained 5 ounces since then (they want to see a half ounce to an ounce per day weight gain).  Jacob's doctor is very happy with his weight gain.  We have another appointment scheduled for this Monday.  We're hoping to see another 5 ounce increase so he's back up to his birth weight.

• Thursday, February 16, 2012 ~ 6 pounds 13 ounces (midnight weight check in hospital)
• Friday, February 17, 2012 ~ 6 pounds 9 ounces (midnight weight check in hospital)
• Wednesday, February 29, 2012 ~ 6 pounds 6 ounces (circumcised)
• Friday, March 2, 2012 ~ 6 pounds 7 ounces
• Monday, March 5, 2012 ~ 6 pounds 7 ounces (started supplementing with formula)
• Thursday, March 8, 2012 ~ 6 pounds 12 ounces
