Swim Lessons!

Carter has come so far in swim lessons since last summer!  Today he swam 4-feet under water!!!  That's something he would have tried last summer....or last week for that matter!  We're so incredibly proud of our little swimmer!

Next week is the last week of swim lessons.  Then he's off for 2 weeks before starting preschool!  Our little Carter is growing up so fast!

Last Day of Swim (Preschool A)

Carter did so well in his swim class this session!  We're so proud of him!!!

We're really impressed with how much he's learned this session....

Carter was so excited they had the water on when we arrived at swim today....

You'd never guess he told me this morning how worried he was about going down the slide.  After a little encouragement he was fine!!!

No More Swim Lessons (this summer)

Carter's last day of swim lessons was today. He still wants to go...so that's a good sign. Too bad they're over :( He had lots of fun today...he even overcame another fear! Last session (2 weeks ago) he was terrified for the swim coach to let go of him when he had the life jacket on. Today...he swam all the way back to the other side of the pool...by himself!!! I'm so proud of him!!! He's overcome so many fears this summer! Who knows...maybe by next summer he'll be swimming all by himself!

I'm sooo proud of him!

Floating on his back...all by himself!!!

Swim (Preschool Advanced)!

Carter started his second session of swim on Monday. They moved him up to Preschool Advanced! He ended up having the same teacher he ended last week with...which was nice! He's doing very well with swim. He's even overcome his fear of swimming on his back!!! He seems to love it more and more everyday! He's especially proud of himself (and so are we) for going under water...he loves to practice every night during his bath!

The Last Day of Swim (this session)!

Today was the last day of swim for this session. He did very well overall. He had a little trouble trusting his new teacher at first, especially when she wanted him to float on his back. But, in the end I think she earned his trust and the good news he was always excited to go back to class the next day. If he continued to be scared of swim lessons I was just going to veto doing them this session. I didn't think it was necessary to traumatize the poor little guy any more than he already was. We've decided to keep him in the Preschool class for next session as well since he's still a little leary of the water. I'm hoping after he gains a little more confidence he'll float on his back (without being afraid). Floating on his back is all he really needs to work on...wonder why he's so afraid to do that???

Changing Swim Coaches

We ended up having to change swim coaches early this week. Last Thursday I ended up pulling Carter from his class because his teacher was telling him if he didn't lay on his back and not scream (he was screaming because he was terrified) that she was going to "put him under water"...that's right...she was threatening him that she would put him under the water if he didn't cooperate. She was using this as a discipline technique??? If you know me at all...then you know how VERY protective I am of my Carter. So needless to say...I didn't take her threatening him too well. I was going to wait until class was over to confront her. Then before I had the chance she was having Carter lay on his back while holding the wakeboard and I noticed his face was going under the water...I just started yelling to her that his face was in the water...I yelled it a couple of times as I was running to help him. I literally ripped him from her arms and took him to the office where we waited to speak to the manager (she was teaching another class at the same time). After speaking to the manager we came to an agreement that we would try the preschool class (the same one he took last summer) and see how that went. Maybe Carter wasn't quiet ready for the advanced preschool class yet...but either way...no child should ever be spoken to that way. I believe swim lessons should be fun...not traumatizing! Carter is doing so much better in his new class...he seems to be right where he needs to be! Take a look...
